Technology Refresh

Optimizing IT assets across the enterprise. It is an IT objective for just about every organization. At Sayers, we have developed a technology refresh methodology that enables client organizations to increase computing power and save money, without workflow disruption—sort of the IT trifecta.

Refreshing Technology Assets on the Fly

Designing and executing a customized methodology for upgrading technology assets helped a major healthcare company accelerate service delivery and widen its competitive advantage.
The Client
The US-based client is the largest for-profit healthcare provider in the world. It is composed of 170 locally managed hospitals and 113 outpatient centers in 20 states and England. The client employs over 180,000 persons, and its annual revenues exceed $25 billion.
The Situation
The client’s strategic direction required an upgrade of core IT assets in its 170 hospital facilities. This infrastructure upgrade would enable the adoption of new technologies and ultimately improve patient care. In addition, the technology upgrades would give the clients’ facilities a competitive advantage in attracting healthcare professionals and their patients. It was imperative that these infrastructure improvements be made quickly but without compromising patient care or disrupting the local hospital staff. At the same time, the client needed to manage the costs associated with 170 separate technology refresh projects, and maintain the flexibility to address local facility requirements.
The Sayers Contribution
The client looked to Sayers to help design and execute a project plan to meet both IT objectives and business requirements. Sayers’ professional services team created a methodology for engaging each hospital facility in the upgrade process. This methodology encompassed all necessary activities: Assessment of facility equipment needs, staging and deploying assets across the facility, and removal and proper disposal of retired assets. A key challenge was close coordination with the client’s IT and clinical staff. Sayers simultaneously deployed multiple service teams to hospital facilities across a wide geography and executed the project plan under a precise timeline. The team has deployed tens of thousands of new technology assets to the client's hospitals ahead of schedule and without business disruption.
The Impact
The execution of the client’s strategic initiative has increased efficiencies and speeded time to market by 50%. It has also enabled the client to avoid implementation costs like hiring or repurposing additional IT staff.

“We have partnered with Sayers through years of high growth and great change and, more than anything else, they have remained consistently relevant to our business.”
